Remarks on Superluminal Propagation of an Electromagnetic Wave in Air
نویسنده
چکیده
The significance of the Lorentz gauge as a constraint on solutions of Maxwellian waves is discussed. It is proved that recent claims of superlu-minal propagation of electromagnetic waves rely on an erroneous basis.

Investigation and Comparison of Light Propagation in Two Graded Photonic Crystal Structures
In this paper, we study two different Graded Index (GRIN) photonic crystal (PC) structures which are named as structure type I and type II. The PC structures are made of the square rod in an air background. To design a GRIN PC structure the lattice constant has been altered in the direction transverse to propagation. We investigated focusing effect and waveguiding behavior of electr...
متن کاملAbout Superluminal Propagation of an Electromagnetic Wavepacket Inside a Rectangular Waveguide
We discuss the propagation of an electromagnetic wavepacket inside a rectangular waveguide, of the type employed in recent experiments on superluminal tunneling of electromagnetic signals. By exploiting the analogy between particle and photon tunneling, we consider both evanescent and growing waves inside the narrowed part of the waveguide. The Fourier expansion of such waves shows that the bar...
متن کاملObservation of Wave Packet Distortion during a Negative-Group-Velocity Transmission
In Physics, causality is a fundamental postulation arising from the second law of thermodynamics. It states that, the cause of an event precedes its effect. In the context of Electromagnetics, the relativistic causality limits the upper bound of the velocity of information, which is carried by electromagnetic wave packets, to the speed of light in free space (c). In anomalously dispersive media...
متن کامل0 Apparent Superluminal Behavior in Wave Propagation
The apparent superluminal propagation of electromagnetic signals seen in recent experiments is shown to be the result of simple and robust properties of relativistic field equations. Although the wave front of a signal passing through a classically forbidden region can never move faster than light, an attenuated replica of the signal is reproduced " instantaneously " on the other side of the ba...
